Hong Kong Protest Leader Joshua Wong Sentenced to Six Months in Jail

HONG KONG–A Hong Kong appeals court sentenced pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong to prison Thursday, effectively disqualifying him from running for office in the next five years.

Mr. Wong, who became the face of a 79-day student protest seeking more equal voting rights in the semi-autonomous Chinese city, was sentenced to six months in jail for unlawful assembly during the 2014 protests, which paralyzed parts of the city.
